And we're off!

This is it! Our grand adventure is finally beginning! It's not a glamorous start -- we had an 8 hour drive to LA, and now we're hanging out at Cindy and Eric's, relaxing 'till midnight, when we get on a very long flight. Still, we're so excited to actually be going! All the day-dreaming and talking and planning is coming to fruition!

For the next few days, we will mostly be in transit. Driving today is done, but then there's the flight to Hong Kong, a very short layover, a 3-hour flight to Bangkok, and, after a 6 hour interlude, an overnight train to Chiang Mai. We'll get to wander about during those 6 hours, though I suspect we'll be pretty tired -- we'll probably sleep on the planes, but we all know that airplane sleep is not all that great, especially for those (like me) who need to chemically induce it. :) But hey, travel is worth the hassle.

It's unlikely that we'll post again until after all this, though if we're very excited and ambitious (and have wifi somewhere), it may happen. But in any case, we're off! Huzzah!
