The adventure begins at LAX

We've got a few hours to kill at LAX, which is less unpleasant than we were expecting.  Last trip, we were in a weird section of the international terminal that had pretty much nothing.  It was our gate, a few other gates, a place to buy water, and a stand or two.  That was it.  We were really glad we had eaten dinner with Cindy and Eric!  So, when we booked our trip this time and discovered that we had 6 hours at LAX, we were a little concerned.  However, either we're in a better section or the whole terminal has been improved.  There are lots of shops (which we haven't gone to) and a ton of food options (including a super expensive caviar and champagne bar, as well as a wine and cheese place that exists only at airports and that I personally love).  We ended up getting yummy sandwiches and mini-cupcakes, which I think is a pretty good airport meal. :)  Anyways, we're now sitting at our gate, waiting for another couple of hours.  I figured I'd update you with what our plans are for this trip.

Unlike the last trip (and unlike our general inclination to both plan and do ALL THE THINGS), we approached this trip with the idea that we would stay in one place, have a more relaxing vacation, and not plan so much.  Well...I guess that's sort of happening.  We will be based out of Chiang Mai for the whole time, other than the layovers, and we only have some things planned, so there's that.  I suspect that we'll still end up doing a lot, because why fly across the world otherwise?  Still, we may get a chance for more relaxation than usual. :)  So far, the things we will be doing for sure are: two foodie tours of Chiang Mai (a morning one early in our trip so that I know what breakfast options are around, and an evening one later on, just because); a more general tour of Chiang Mai, since we didn't do anything like that last time; another visit to the zoo and maybe the night safari; a day trip to an elephant park; another visit to a place where you can play with tigers (but a different place from last time); a Thai cooking class for both of us; and another ziplining trip, because that was just awesome.  There will certainly be massages in there somewhere, as well as multiple trips to various markets, lots of yummy food, and plenty of mango and jackfruit.  I guess that kind of is a lot of plans, but we actually have about half our days completely free as of right now, so there's room for much more!

First, though, we'll be going to Seoul for the first of our 12-hour layovers.  During this one, we'll be meeting Amy, who we met on our last big trip in India!  She's a teacher somewhere near Seoul and offered to take us around for the day.  The tentative plan is to go to the palace, a tower with a great view, an old authentic neighborhood, a cat cafe (!), and maybe a spa.  Phew!  We'll see what all we actually end up doing!  I'm not sure when we'll get a chance to blog again (maybe tomorrow, but maybe not 'till the next day), but I'll let you know how it goes!

We board in about an hour, so wish us luck!  Hopefully, we'll sleep on the flight and be energetic for our day in Seoul!
